So these are my top five images that I created. I was really inspired by Kelli Connell who 's images we all looked at earlier in the semester. She would use Photoshop to take two or more images that she photographed and merged them to one that will help express her views on living an alternative lifestyle amongst other ideas. I did the same type of process as far as taking all of my own photos and merging them into one. I tried using two and three characters in my images and I'm not sure which tells a story better. I made these images more dark just because of the Halloween spirit I guess. What I would like to try to do for next time will be self interaction. touching each other and such. It will be much more challenging than getting two characters in one picture. Thanks ahead of time for all of the feedback I'm about to get! See you Wednesday.

Mike, I think you have a great idea here. Right off the bat (pun intended, of course) I noticed how much I liked your third image. The interaction the character is having with itself is really interesting. It's also fun because it's the same person twice. I'm excited to see your next set of photos with the 'self-interaction' you want to portray. I think that third image works well with that idea...keep exploring that. Maybe explore shooting from different angles (ground up, from above, etc.).
ReplyDeleteI think for your next shoot if you are going to have them more interacting with each other, it would be nice to be more zoomed in on the picture. The background isn't so important in these pictures and if you zoom in the scenery won't be lost, but the connection of the figures will become the focus.
ReplyDeleteI really like your 4th picture. It's a nicer street shoot, and then having the added photoshopped repeats in it make it fun. I'd say also for your next ones, keep in mind the crop of your frame. I think that a interesting composition of the piece will make this even more interesting.
Looks like you've come far since our first progression in class and looks like you have a good idea of where to go with it. Good luck! :)
I think you really are doing well with photo shopping the images in. My only suggestion would be to create some kind of story or situation. Im not quite understanding the bat, he doesn't seem angry in any way. But I'm sure I'm missing something. I would also either choose to have all 5 photo's to be one subject, or do each photo a different subject, I'm saying that because the first photo is of the girl and the rest is or the guy, and I don't see a connection. But maybe it would be interesting to have all different photo's.
ReplyDeleteBut I love where you are going with this, and you are doing such a great job putting them together!
Mike,
ReplyDeleteI really like what you have done so far. You have done a very good job photoshopping the images together as others have said. I definitely see the influence of Kelli Connell in your work. Her work really shows a relationship between the one subject and themselves. I'm not quite sure what your story is or what you are trying to portray. I also agree with keeping the subjects either consistant or all different. I think which would be best would depend on what you are trying to portray. If you want a storyline, the one subject would be best but if its a comment on people in general a series of different people would work better. I think that continuing with this idea and experimenting with more interaction between the figure and themselves will be very interesting.
Overall I think you have done a very good job and it's a great start!
I love your concept. I like the idea of having just one subject, but give yourself two different characters. Maybe have a different shirt on to portray the guy with the bat. I think just two images per photo is best; for the ones with three images I am more drawn to the two figures on the right. I really like the interaction between the two. If you were going to do diptychs, I can easily see photos 2&3 and 4&5 going together as before and during the incidents. Great work so far!
ReplyDeleteGreat work with the inner conflict theme. Though the first image confuses me. The character doesn't seem to want to hurt themselves as much as the guy characters does. Was this done on purpose? You should either explore the want or dis want to hurt or not include image one with these images, they just don't seem to go together. The three characters in one scene is really fun and interesting but I feel interaction between just two of the characters is stronger. In the last shot with the middle guy swinging it looked weird and I didn't believe that he was actually there to begin with, I know you photoshopped him in but something about his size and position throws me off. Like Kim said, you should zoom in more. For example in the first image the couch and clothing is very distracting and shouldn't have been included in the framing. I like the idea of you have the characters touch more in the next round of photos to be taken. I think it will give a stronger connection between the characters and will be really exciting to see in class!
ReplyDeleteMike,
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are really cool. I like what you've done and the merges are really well done. Personally I like just two people. I feel the third is a little reptitive and not needed. Unless they are all doing something different, otherwise I feel it will work. But in the 4th and 5th pictures the last two characters are pretty much in the same pose and doing the same thing. It would be interesting to change that up. I can't wait to see where you take this for the next shoot.
Great job man,
ReplyDeleteI like all the pictures, I understand exactly what you are doing and how you are trying to represent the scenario you chose. Keep up the good work.

I really like your idea and concept. It seems very interesting. I'm impressed with your photoshopping. Most people have a hard time with that and i think you did a good job making the images fit into one another. I also think it would be a good idea for the next shoot to have your models interacting more. I think your fourth picture is the strongest! Keep up the good work.

I think your moving in a good direction, you should maybe try adding shadows to ground the figures a little more if you already haven't done that. I think you should have your models interacting with each other, some eye contact maybe. I'm not really understanding the story the figures are telling. I get that maybe the male character is maybe beating up on himself about something?
ReplyDeleteI really like the ones where it looks like you are using the same person but you have multiplied him it is working really well over all I think it is a really great concept too. The only thing I would say is to remind you to be aware of your background sometimes especially when you are not photographing in the studio its easy to forget about the stuff around what your subject and it can get kind of distracting sometimes. I would also maybe try some in black and white?
ReplyDeleteI really liked your concept, I'm a big Kelly Connely fan too. The biggest things I would say about your images are that the top picture doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the images, the shadows under your people should be added in, and it may make your piece more sucessful if you cropped in a little closer and made the viewer feel like they were looking in on a specific scene/place. Look over Kelly's work again, she doesn't have very many wide angle shots. Also, I think your shadow issues would be at least partially resolved if you hooked your camera up to a tripod, set it to manual, and then did your 3 photos. That way, everyone alread fits in the scene and shadows are already there. It would make editiing in PS easier later. Good Luck! Beth
ReplyDeleteVery interesting concept. I like how you used Kelli Connell as an influence but did your own thing with the idea. While the concept is interesting, I am having trouble figuring out the subject of the photographs. Why is the kid about to hit himself with the bat? Or what is he following himself with a bat? Is it playing upon burglarizing? Would black and white help get the emotion of the first image across?
